USE YOUR REFLECTIVE POWER
On many occasions and in different spheres of this life we encounter expressions which try to explain the nature of humans. Such phrases are widely believed to be true and they, somehow, become the foundation for life philosophies of many people.
As humans, we do not believe ourselves to be capable of doing all things and in this sense, we have carved the phrase ‘no man is perfect.’ to help give room for and also forgive failures and unexpected odd deeds which may arise. Of course you can never have a human, who can do all things, yet some people seem to get things done right almost all the time and also they appear to have perfect life. So one might wonder how they attain it. Well, it is a fact that those people go through a lot. They have their own shares of fear, mistakes, errors and failures. What you see them to be is just a tip of the iceberg.
Every human being is fallible. We are imperfect not physiologically (bodily) but by our thoughts, actions and reactions towards ourselves and others. This is because we do not possess the all knowledge to be able to do the right thing all the time. The right to all knowledge is reserved only with our maker. Human beings are naturally not made to see beforehand what will happen in their future. Can you tell all that will happen in the next 24 hours? No. We can only anticipate and project into the future based on the past and present experiences. Our future lives are shaped by our past and present experiences. In this sense, it is said that a human being is a product of their experiences. And experiences are life encounters.
We are creatures endowed with the ability to make decisions for ourselves. That is why we are also held accountable for the outcome of every decision we take. Most often the choices and decisions are born out of our past experiences. What informs your decisions?
Your past habours everything about you. Your joys, sorrows and struggles are buried in there. Your past is real because it is the chronicle of your experience. It carries in it facts about your behaviour, your encounters and their outcomes. It is important that when you are deciding or making choices, you revisit the repertoire of your past encounters. For me, the past is an instrument, the most vital one which can tell what is likely to happen in the future if you repeat your past behaviour or choice.
One thing to take note is that human character is reborn. From the time of creation, love, joy, hatred, anger, greed, selfishness, envy, pride, arrogance, hunger etc. which inform our decisions haven’t changed. That is why evil still persists. Only the outer substances such as food, shelter, clothing and knowledge keep evolving from time to time.
Take time to reflect upon every experience you go through especially grave ones. Some experiences are not pleasant and as such one may not want to think of it again. It is only natural. But I tell you unless you appreciate your past you will never be proud of how far you have come and where you are going. If you don’t take time to reflect and make lessons out of your past happenings, you are likely to have a stalemate of life. You will not advance in your thinking, decisions, actions and responses.
Wait not till you fall again. Reflect. Examine and re-examine your ways and experiences. Take into account those that were beneficial and those which were not in order to have a better projection and insight into your future. You will discover new and better ways of doing things and better ways of dealing with people and events. It will make you take a proper account of your self. Make reflection a habit and it will serve as watchdog guiding you.
